Functional Safety

Functional Safety is the absence of unreasonable risk of physical injury due to malfunctioning of a product. This assurance can be achieved through adherence to state-of-the-art safety standards. The international standard, IEC 61508 delineates guidelines to apply, design, deploy and maintain safety-related systems. Furthermore, tailored standards like ISO 26262 for the automotive sector, ISO 13849 for machinery, and ISO 25119 for agriculture have been introduced to meet industry-specific safety requirements. These standards collectively address compliance in three key dimensions – technical, process and organizational compliance.

Benefits

  • Assurance of safety of the product

  • Improvement to the overall quality of the product

  • Reduced legal liability in the event of accidents or failures

Services

  • Functional safety management

  • Creating safety concepts – HARA, FSC, TSC, FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, hardware and software safety concepts

  • Functional safety gap analysis

  • Internal functional safety audits

Systems Engineering

Systems Engineering represents an interdisciplinary approach aimed at facilitating the effective development, utilization, and eventual decommissioning of engineered systems. This approach leverages fundamental systems principles, along with a combination of scientific, technological, and management methods. A core tenet of systems engineering is its recognition of circular causation, wherein variables mutually influence each other as both causes and effects. One widely adopted Systems Engineering methodology is the EAST ADL approach, particularly prominent within the automotive industry. It systematically decomposes the vehicle into four distinct levels, facilitating a modular design approach for each component. This aligns seamlessly with the hierarchical structure delineated in ISO 26262.

Benefits

  • Streamlining the development of intricate systems by diving them into smaller manageable subsystems

  • Early mitigation of project risks leading to reduction in cost overrun

  • Reduction in schedule overrun

Services

  • Development of system engineering process

  • Creating functional and technical concepts incl. UML architecture and requirements

  • Integration of systems engineering work products with functional safety

Quality Management

Quality Management encompasses a suite of organizational processes, responsibilities, and tasks dedicated to consistently achieving high-quality outcomes while satisfying customer requirements. Like the approach employed in functional safety, quality management adopts a risk-based methodology to identify potential risks to product quality and institute effective mitigation measures. The ISO 9001 standard stands out as the most widely recognized framework for Quality Management Systems, enabling organizations to deliver consistent and top-quality services. Within the automotive industry, ISO 16949 and ASPICE have emerged as prominent standards. ISO 16949 deals with overall product management aspects like resource management and training, product realization, manufacturing process, as well as the continuous monitoring and enhancement of product quality. On the other hand, ASPICE focuses specifically on software and system development, emphasizing aspects such as requirements management, architectural design, testing, acquisition, and efficient project management.

Benefits

  • Improvement to the overall quality of the product

  • Develop products/ services that fulfil stakeholder requirements

  • Increased customer satisfaction

Services

  • Establish quality management processes for a project/ product/ organization

  • CMMI/ASPICE gap analyses

  • Identifying tools and processes to ensure quality management

  • Internal CMMI/ASPICE audits
